Enugu puts finishing touches to preparations for the 37th National Festival of Arts and Culture (NAFEST 2025) kicking off this Saturday. The big event, dubbed Nigeria’s Culture Olympics, kicks off on Saturday, 22 November and runs through November 29. “Connected Culture” is the theme of this year’s edition.
The National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC) organises NAFEST 2025. This year’s festival is in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Tourism, Culture and National Orientation and fully backed by federal and state authorities
In June, NCAC Director-General and Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy met with Governor Peter Mbah who assured of state government support.
Earlier this month, the governor ramped up preparations by setting up a Local Organizing Committee (LOC). Members comprise representatives of Enugu State Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the NCAC office, and the State Tourism Board. The LOC secretariat is at the State Council for Arts and Culture, with its DG, Hon. Laurence Ani, as Secretary. Gov Mbah tasked the LOC with logistics, security, hospitality, and managing cultural showcases.
In publicly stated goals, both the federal and state governments emphasize that NAFEST 2025 is not just a celebration. For the federal government, is a strategic investment in Nigeria’s creative economy. Governor Mbah tied the festival to Enugu’s broader tourism agenda, which aims to draw three million visitors annually to Enugu.
NAFEST 2025 is finally here, ready to transform the Coal City into a cultural hub over the next week. The performances, competitions, and exhibitions promise to reflect Nigeria’s rich tapestry of traditions. The Festival will showcase events from dance and music to cuisine and indigenous sports.
With intense coordination between federal agencies and the State LOC, expectations are high that NAFEST 2025 will deliver a world-class celebration of national unity and heritage.
