Opposition candidate John Chuma Nwosu yesterday launched a strong attack on Governor Soludo whom he accused of practicing “try-your-luck” governance. Nwosu, one of the 15 Anambra governorship aspirants, is the candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The ADC candidate and his running mate, Chief Ndubisi Nwobu, yesterday, 8 August 2025, launched their campaign at the All Saints Cathedral Church field in Onitsha. He urged Anambra voters to choose him in place of Governor Soludo whom he accused of underwhelming in performance. Voting for the governor is a gamble that Anambra can ill afford, he said.
“If Soludo did not succeed in the first four years, he won’t succeed in another four years,” he declared.
Nwosu said he was not running as a candidate “but as a fellow citizen who feel your pain, and share in your struggles and dreams of a better future with you. Governance is not rocket science; but it is also not try-your-luck or making bogus promises that one won’t keep”. He described himself as the credible alternative “to a Soludo administration that is tested and failed.”
Making the case against Gov Soludo
The ADC candidate alleged that Governor Soludo failed comprehensively.
“Soludo failed Anambra on security; he failed us on development; he failed us on the respect for the rule of law. He also failed us on respecting our traditional institutions. Simply put: Soludo is an all-round failure. He has to go!”
Nwosu accused Soludo of arrogance, a character flaw that, according to him, has had a negative impact on the state. He concluded the case thusly:
“Our state, hitherto a pocket of governance excellence has regressed economically due to insecurity. Under Soludo Anambra is insecure. It has become a crime scene, riddled with criminality and bloodletting. This has to change. Such carnage has to end! Under Soludo our people are underserved and overtaxed. He deployed brutality to collect revenue, and many have been maimed and some have died in the hands his agents. My people, Soludo’s “solution” has turned governance into Soludo’s “pollution.”
‘Anambra needs practical governance’
Not done, he also launched the following broadsides, as he inserted himself as “the credible alternative’:
“In 2017, Soludo selfishly stated that “Anambra was not broken, so why fix it?” But karma has an address. Under his watch, Anambra has become badly broken and in the worse possible shape. Soludo has no solution for the challenges of Anambra.“
Nwosu therefore appealed to voters to save Anambra from Soludo’s disastrous leadership. “Theory is not practical. We need practical leadership and Soludo has not offered us that.”
His next words echoed Mr. Peter Obi’s political slogan: “Ndi Anambra, a New Nigeria is imminent. We are in a marathon race to produce that New Nigeria. But we must start from here in Anambra. We need to create a secure and enabling environment that will attract investors”.
The ADC alternative
Nwosu offered an alternative with his campaign manifesto, titled “Seven Pillars of Good Governance.” He summarized the pillars under the acronym SHEEMS – for Security, Health, Education, Economy, Enterprise, Markets, and Social Welfare.
SHEEMS, he explained, “prioritizes and provides the framework for addressing Anambra’s needs. Every sector will get the deserved attention from government. Services will be seamless.”
Nwosu promised to make “each of the SHEEEMS pillars practical and effective via the application and prioritization of technology and artificial intelligence. We will train and incentivize our youths, in the various sectors to make them employable and competitive.”
