“Phase A” renovation of the iconic Nike Lake Hotel – incorporating complete redesign of the interior spaces – is at 50% completion. This phase involves expanding tight room spaces, installing gypsium ceilings, wall screeding, and painting – all targeting guest comfort.

Interior design experts hired by Landmark Africa to do the facelift reported this update in an X post. Landmark Africa, the new managers of the property, previously announced the extensive room renovations as Phase A of the project.

The aim, it said, is to “enhance room experience for guests through improved functionality and elegance.”

According to Landmark, “the redesign reflects a commitment to clean lines, neutral color palettes, and natural lighting, all intended to evoke a serene and luxurious ambiance.”

A new life at Nike Lake

Landmark says the goal is “to breathe new life into the aging structure by transforming outdated designs into sleek, contemporary spaces that match international hospitality standards.”

A design lead said in a video posted on X that his team focused on removing and replacing obsolete fixtures to improve aesthetics and comfort across all guest areas.

“We’ve removed outdated elements such as the old television sets and bed frames. We took out previous fixtures in our redesign concept to make room for the new installations.”

Beyond the cosmetic

The design goes beyond this cosmetic to also target spatial reconfiguration that addresses previous limitations and “bring the hotel in line with modern expectations.

They gave the example of bathrooms subjected to “significant structural modifications.” The modifications include knocking down toilet walls to expand the space, another contributor said. “You’ll notice a dwarf wall now in place—that’s because we plan to install a full-height glass wall there.” Other modifications are the installation of gypsium board ceilings and screeding of the walls.

The interior redesign team says they are now at the painting stage.

“Our vision is to elevate the space into something modern yet simple—classy but not excessive.”

Why this is important

Nike Lake Hotel, once a premier destination in the Southeast and an important landmark in Enugu State, has seen periods of decline due to years of neglect. The current renovation represents the most significant investment in the property in decades which residents and tourism stakeholders see as a welcome development.

Industry watchers say the transformation of Nike Lake Hotel could reestablish it as a hospitality hotspot in Eastern Nigeria and boost the state’s tourism potential.

Sources say Landmark is keen on delivering Phase A within the next few months.

The full renovation, expected to unfold in stages, is projected to completely redefine the experience of staying at one of Enugu’s most iconic resorts.
