Available as shared or drop services. Shared taxis follow fixed routes and are budget-friendly, while drop taxis offer direct rides at a higher cost.
Minibus

They follow specific routes and are a common means of transport for residents. It could be a drama-filled ride if you understand the local lingo.
Tricycle

They are the improved version of commercial motor-bikes in Nigerian cities. Ideal for traveling to street addresses from the major bus stops.
Bikes

Also known as Okada, this is ideal for short distances and for meandering through heavy traffic. It is hair-raising to ride with amateur operators
Pro Tip: For the visitor who is not interested in local adventure rides, these modes of transportation usually deliver neither the most convenient nor the most consistent safe rides.
Travel Tips
- Motorcycle Taxis: Always prioritize safety by wearing a helmet, and stop the rider is he is driving too fast or recklessly. Most cities, including Enugu, do not allow Okada in city centres and low density areas. Be aware of local regulations regarding okada operations, so that you are not embarrassed when the cycle is stopped in the middle of your journey.
- Taxi cabs: Ensure the taxi is in good condition and the driver is licensed.
- Buses: Familiarize yourself with the bus routes to ensure you board the correct one.Buses can be crowded during peak hours; plan your travel accordingly.

Shared taxis and buses are budget-friendly but are often crowded. They also follow fixed routes, leaving passengers to trek great distances from a bus stop to their final destination. Motorcycle taxis (aka okada) are quick for short distances. They however come with higher safety risks due to poor road conditions and limited regulation. Tourists should therefor use these options cautiously. These modes offer a glimpse into everyday life in Enugu. We however encourage visitors prioritize safety by going with hotel and airport car hire vehicles or available ride-hailing apps.

The Enugu State Government is working hard to deliver upgraded and more secure transport system. At the core of the program is a centralized and well-organized transportation hub that makes it easier for residents and visitors to access public transportation, especially those in areas with limited access to other modes of transport. Government also hopes that this will improve the flow of traffic, reduce congestion, and create a more efficient way for people to travel within and beyond the state. The three projects being pursued simultaneously are ultramodern bus terminals, CNG-powered intra-city bus transport buses, and electric cars for use as taxi-cabs.

Ultramodern Bus Terminals
There are five bus terminals under construction to reorganize the transport system and make travel more secure and seamless. The terminals are Holy Ghost Terminals (1 & 2), old Garki Market, Abakpa Market (all in Enugu City) and Ogige Market in Nsukka.

CNG-powered luxury buses
Government is introducing CNG-powered buses for inter-city transportation. The system will be fed from an electric and CNG automotive manufacturing plant commissioned at Owo in Nkanu East LGA of Enugu to assemble vehicles.
